Anxiety = Excitement

Did you know that physiologically speaking, anxiety and excitement are virtually the same? Elevated heart rate, sweaty palms, stomach butterflies are all symptoms from the arousal of the nervous system, and you experience these when you’re anxious or excited.

Yet one can be crippling and the other can be motivating – so mindset is everything here. With excitement you go with it and use it to propel you forward. And with anxiety, it can hold you back.

What if next time you’re feeling nervous or anxious….
👉 Notice the feelings, become aware of the physical sensations
👉 Tell yourself these are the same sensations you’d have if you were feeling excited so try to shift your mindset
👉 Accept these sensations, rename the anxiety as excitement and go with it.

Research done by Harvard professor Alison Wood Brooks in 2014 showed people who re-named their anxiety as excitement felt more excited and performed better.  So why not give this a go?
