Narrative Coaching

How we’ll work together

My narrative coaching approach is based on work of Dr David Drake of the Moment Institute and draws from a number of other evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Coaching, Mindfulness, and Positive Psychology. I blend these approaches with seminal works on storytelling such as Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero With 1000 Faces” and techniques drawn from the creative arts such as Visualisation and Improvisation.

Within our coaching engagement is a Strengthscope assessment, a British Psychological Society-endorsed test to unearth the superpower strengths in people.  Science shows us that more consciously leading with your unique strengths can have a profound impact on your energy and mindset.

I tailor the coaching process to the needs of each individual client, typically over six sessions of 60 to 90 minutes in duration. These sessions can be held virtually over Zoom, or in person in London or Buckinghamshire. There is also the option of “walk and coach” where we hold the coaching sessions during the course of a walk in beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside.

We begin with a free 30-minute exploratory call over Zoom to discuss your needs, share more about the Narrative Coaching approach, and understand how well it fits your needs. Once we agree to move forward, we will work together across four key phases:

What was?

We experience our sense of self from remembering, recalling and replaying what we have done. We start by looking backwards, identifying common themes and patterns from your past that are relevant to who you are today.

What is?

We tune into the present moment and the stories you are telling yourself about yourself and about others. We investigate what really matters to you, your unique strengths and how you can then start making choices based upon these.

What could be?

We have loosened ingrained patterns and now have the space to consider alternative stories to re-author your life. We use experimentation and playful approaches to create alternative narratives.

What’s the path to get there?

We have tapped into your own resourcefulness to know which stories serve you, which you’d like to evolve and which you’d like to leave behind . We create the structures for success so you can sustain what you have created in this safe space.
