Unconscious bias

Unconscious bias (also known as cognitive bias) is a very current topic – but how many types of cognitive biases are there? I was amazed to learn there are at least 50! Check out this list produced by the Visual Capitalist. There are obviously the more common ones such as “group think” and the “halo effect”, but there are also some absolute crackers!

The Dunning Kruger effect – the less you know, the more confident are; the more you know, the less confidence you are

Declinism – romanticising the past, viewing the future negatively

The Ikea effect – our tendency to attach a higher value to things we help create…

With my coaching clients, we are often looking to identify and then unravel these types of biases to understand how they are affecting their behaviour and actions.
