Stoicism, Leadership & Parenting

Stoicism has been in vogue for a little while now, popularised by the like of Ryan Holliday and Tim Ferris. When people use the term “stoic” it’s often associated with not being emotional or demonstrating emotion, but the philosophy of stoicism is far richer. It has similarities with Cognitive Behavioural Coaching, Buddhism and Mindfulness.

It is a philosophy of life that comes from ancient Greece and Rome in the early parts of the 3rd century, BC. I personally find it fascinating that one of the great Roman emperors, Marcus Aurelius was one of the main proponents of Stoicism, and his “Meditations” are a great insight into his mind.

In short, Stoicism maximises positive emotions, reduces negative emotions and helps individuals to hone their virtues of character and focus on wisdom, justice, courage, and moderation.

There are many websites / materials on Stocisim, but I wanted to flag this one in particular as it is informative both from a leadership perspective and a parenting perspective.
