My Definite Aim

Bruce Lee was not just an incredible martial arts artist and actor that created his own integrated style of kung fu, but a deeply spiritual man, full of insight and wisdom. I saw a documentary on his life a few months ago, and I learnt one of the most important life lessons ever.

Lee referred to a handwritten note he signed and dated in 1969, entitled “My Definite Chief Aim”.

The note outlines his future goals:

🌟 “I, Bruce Lee, will be the first highest paid Oriental super star in the United States.”

Today we might refer to this as an affirmation or manifesting an outcome.

What’s different though, what left a lasting mark on me is what then followed:

🌟 “In return I will give the most exciting performances and render the best of quality in the capacity of an actor.”

“In return…” How many of us when setting out goals, making affirmations, manifesting a future, think about what we will give back in return for achieving our goals?

What if we expanded our goal setting to include what we will give in return? This simple addition is so powerful and shifts your focus from what you will get to what you will give. That makes for a much more purposeful and impactful goal.

“I, Bruce Lee, will be the first highest paid Oriental super star in the United States. In return I will give the most exciting performances and render the best of quality in the capacity of an actor”

You certainly did Bruce, you certainly did. No one has ever come close.
