Mood Follow Action

I love road cycling. It’s a passion of mine. I love it so much I worry I might get injured that would mean I couldn’t cycle.

And yet despite this passion, there are still many times when I need to get up at to go for a ride, that I’m just not in the mood for it and would rather stay in bed and skip it this time.

How often do we feel we have to be in the mood for something before we can start it?

Shall I go to the gym? Nah, not in the mood for it.
Shall I start reading that book? Nah, not in the mood for it.

What happens with a change in perspective?

Credit to Rich Roll for this, who has this almost as a mantra on his podcasts…

Rather than mood being a precursor to action, what if you adopted the perspective that mood follows action?

You know that great feeling when you’ve done something worthwhile…

Don’t wait to have that feeling, to be in the mood before you take action – take action and the feeling, the mood will come after!
